*tap* *tap* is this thing on? [22 May 2008|10:55am]

From the FOW list:
The Whitlams are giving away over 700,000 albums.

Starting on Sunday June 1st in NSW's The Sunday Telegraph and rolling out through Victoria in The Australian, and Tasmania in The Mercury, newspaper readers can receive a free Live in Concert CD of The Whitlams and The Sydney Symphony.

In September 2007 nine composers and 82 musicians from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra arranged and performed songs with iconic Australian band The Whitlams over four nights at the Sydney Opera House. The result, a rich and delightful CD, is full of stirring moments from those concerts.

The exercise is the first time in Australia an established band has given away a full album on this scale.

Lead singer Tim Freedman said "We are proud of our orchestral shows and are very happy that so many people will get to hear them.

"Music Editor of The Sunday Telegraph, Jonathan Moran said, "The quality of the sound is amazing. We know our readers are going to love it."

I'd love to get my hands on a copy of this, but I live in the U.S. Anyone willing to snag a copy and send it to a poor, Whitlams-bereft Yank? I could trade for something interesting from here.

My name is Alicia and I represent a charity project called the One Million Masterpiece.
We are aiming to make the largest collaborative artwork in history while raising $6 million US dollars for five different charities.
In July next year, the collaborative artwork will be unvieled at an exclusive art gallery in London.
I'm plugging this because I thought that you guys might be interested.
All you have to do is sign up and draw a picture for the project. There is an option to sign up for free, or you can donate to the cause.
You don't need any particular talent for drawing, though I assume that many of you do hold such talent.

dear everyone
I just joined up with a site called the one million masterpiece (it can be found at theonemillionmasterpiece.com) and it's a site aiming to collaborate the works of one million artists by june next year.
I've probably sent out an email to a few of you already, unless I knew it would piss you off, in which case I haven't, because they need your help. All of the proceeds from the project go to charity. When you join up, you have the choice to donate money to purchase a sqare on which to draw, or to use a free one with the possibility of donating later.
This work will be launched on July 11, 2007 in London, and every square will be featured in thier own 5x5cm spot.
So, give it a try and put something together for a good cause- you don't need talent to give a message!

Hey, any Brisbanites going to the gig at Maroochydore on the 27th? I'm really hoping to go, but I don't have a car. Anyone up for 'pooling? If not, I've got to figure out a nice hostel or something. Serves me right for not finding out about it sooner. *g*

Grasping at straws a bit [21 Nov 2005|05:30pm]

Does anyone know whether there are any hi-res, clear photos of the Whitlams anywhere on the internet? For layouts and such - the ones on the website are too small for what I'm thinking of doing, and so far, google has failed me.

Whitlams @ Fly By Night, Perth (x-posted) [25 Oct 2005|05:38am]

[ mood | amused ]

I haven't written about Saturday night's Whitlams gig yet. It just seems redundant writing about what music makes me feel... words don't seem apt.

Having said that, it was just too freaking hilarious not to share (esp with you overseas fans).

High on cold and flu tablets, everything seemed amusing and dull at the same time. The supporting acts took their sweet time (though they were really quite good... College Fall and some other fella) and two and a half hours later, the Whits came on. Two seconds into the song and there were problems with the sound, so Tim stopped the band, stood up and said, "I'm afraid that's all we've got time for, folks. Hope you enjoyed the show. See you next time!" and made as if he was leaving. That was to be the start of a VERY odd gig!

Jak pulled his guitar out of its jack, Terepai kept rearranging the drums closer and further away as he was playing, and at one point almost toppled of the stool. Tim reprimanded the sound guy for just giving him a glass of wine rather than a bottle, and got so drunk by the end of the night that he forgot the lyrics. We had to prompt him during I Make Hamburgers and Buy Now Pay Later.

antzpantz managed to get a hold of Jak's set list and I got Tim's... to my utter delight it had handwritten notes on what he was going to say at certain points ("Farnham" --> John Farnham's going to release a cover of No Aphrodisiac. When will the man retire! NEVERRR!). We hung around and when he came out for signing, he got all embarrassed at his incriminating notes that he ripped the setlist in half leaving only the printed song names, then signed it with the wrong date, haha.

All in all, a brilliantly unrehearsed gig, making a good change from his solo tour in which each word seemed pre-prepared.

This May be terribly inappropriate... [13 Aug 2005|03:57am]

But if you've spent anytime with a drunk/happy Freeds after a MGF/McCormack or MGF related gig then you already know. He keeps saying how much he likes this band... How much they 'rock' how much he loves them...

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls and others of a more dubious nature!

That diabolical rocker Loveshark (MGF) will be doing a gig at the Annandale on Saturday, August 27th!!

I expect there to be mad mad dancing and fiery antics, particularly with the advent of his 'knob cauldron'. More fun than playing in traffic! Come for the fire. Stay for the Music and please come again.,, ;)

Discounted presale tickets are available by contacting Ruth on 0438864794 or by leaving a comment in this lj id. Check out his cool new website too... $8 presale....
